The Chain Wars
Two Wars · The Fracture of the Cosmos
The Lightfall did not end. It became a war. And the war became two wars. The cosmos, which had survived the first divine wound, would not survive the second without permanent damage. The Lattice, which had held since the moment of the Covenant, began to remember what it felt like to break.
The First Chain War was fought between Solaris and Calipso over a question that no god had ever asked aloud: does the cosmos belong to those who reveal, or to those who protect? Solaris insisted that nothing should be hidden. Calipso insisted that some things survive only in protection. Neither god won. The cosmos itself began to tremble from the force of two divine wills pulling against each other across realms that had been built to balance them, not to break them.
The Second Chain War was worse. It was not a battle. It was a feedback loop. Every time Solaris burned, Vorak's entropy expanded. Every time entropy expanded, the fractures fed Solaris's rage. The cosmos turned on itself like a fire devouring its own wood. Etherion's systems broke down under the strain. Arcturon's laws were ignored by gods who had once sworn to uphold them. Lunaris's tides became erratic and the oceans lost their rhythm.
And Zeraphel went silent. He walked into the Echo Sanctum and did not return. Not for the rest of the war. Not for the age that followed. The god of memory chose absence. The cosmos took note. Some wounds are too sacred to witness, and Zeraphel, who had always been the witness, refused to watch what was coming.
At the war's height, the Lattice itself began to fray. Chains snapped in regions where mortals had never set foot. The sky above the Realms cracked in places, and through those cracks the gods saw, for the first time, that they could destroy what they had built. The cosmos was not eternal. It was held. And the holding was not infinite.
A silent truce was called. No treaty was signed. No god offered an apology. Solaris returned to his Spire. Calipso returned to the Shadow Quadrant. Vorak walked further into the Broken Zone. The fighting stopped because the gods themselves were exhausted, and because something in the cosmos had begun to whisper a warning that even they could not ignore.
The Chain Wars did not end. They paused. And the pause became a silence. And the silence became the next age. The age in which nothing happened, because everything that mattered had already happened, and no one was ready to admit it yet.
"The Chain Wars did not end. They paused. And the pause became a silence. And the silence became the next age."
